U.S. trade deficit widens as imports hit hig

The U.S. trade deficit surged to the widest imbalance in more than three years in January as imports hit an all-time high, the Commerce Department reported Friday. Economists forecast the deficit in 2012 will widen from last year’s $ 560 billion imbalance, thanks in part to the ongoing economic woes in Europe.
